Elon Musk says goodbye to the Trump administration as he has completed his mission of slashing wasteful government spending after reaching his 130-day limit as a special government employee.
See the tweet below.
The Tesla CEO thanked President Trump while liberals celebrate his departure, despite his successful removal of 260,000 federal jobs through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Musk announced his departure from the Trump administration, marking the end of his official stint leading the DOGE.
As the 130-day work limit for federal special government employees approached, Musk expressed gratitude to President Trump for the opportunity to tackle bloated government spending.
“As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,” Musk stated in his farewell message.
During his tenure, Musk made significant progress in fulfilling Trump’s campaign promise to trim government fat.
DOGE initiatives successfully cut or made approximately 260,000 federal jobs redundant, although some firings faced resistance from activist judges who blocked the terminations.
The billionaire entrepreneur initially aimed to slash $2 trillion from the federal budget, but later adjusted his target to a more realistic $150 billion.
As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending.
The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.

His departure comes shortly after publicly criticizing Trump’s budget bill, which Musk believed would increase the federal deficit and undermine DOGE’s work.
“I think a bill can be big or it could be beautiful, but I don’t know if it could be both,” Musk remarked about the budget legislation.
Despite stepping back from his official role, Musk plans to maintain a small office at the White House and continue limited government work until the end of Trump’s term.
He expressed confidence that DOGE’s mission would endure, tweeting, “The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.”
The Tesla CEO faced substantial backlash from leftist activists during his time in government.
His support for Trump and efforts to reduce federal spending made him a target for protests, some escalating to vandalism against Tesla properties—actions promptly condemned by US Attorney General Pam Bondi.
Moreover, Musk’s government service coincided with challenges at Tesla, including declining sales and stock prices.
He now plans to refocus his attention on his businesses, including Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI, and he commits to leading Tesla for at least the next five years.
Pension fund leaders have urged Tesla’s board to require Musk to work a minimum of 40 hours per week at the electric vehicle company for future CEO compensation, signaling concerns about his divided attention.
As Musk transitions away from his government role, he faces potential legal challenges, with allegations of federal law violations during his leadership of DOGE.
Nevertheless, his efforts to drain the swamp and reduce government bloat have earned him respect among conservatives and Trump supporters who have long advocated for smaller government.
The entrepreneur has indicated he will reduce his political donations after making significant contributions to Trump’s campaign.
This will suggest a desire to distance himself from direct political involvement while continuing to advocate for efficiency in government operations.
