Laura Garrett’s alleged assault on the elderly man at a Florida park reveals the growing hostility toward conservatives exercising their First Amendment rights in public.
The Largo Police Department arrested Garrett following the incident at Northeast Park and Paw Place in Largo, Florida.
According to police reports, she has been charged with battery on a person older than 65, battery on a police officer, and obstructing or resisting an officer without violence – serious charges that could result in significant penalties.
The confrontation began when Garrett approached the elderly man specifically to question his support for President Donald Trump.
What should have been a protected expression of political belief through a simple hat quickly escalated into violence when Garrett allegedly poured a can’s contents on the man’s head and struck him.
After the attack, Garrett reportedly jumped a fence and fled the scene. When police located her, the situation only deteriorated further as she allegedly resisted arrest, causing an officer to fall and bruise his knee in the struggle.
Court documents detailed how Garrett continued fighting the arresting officers, “dropping to the ground and wrapping her legs around an officer,” before “kicking and pulling away” as they attempted to take her into custody.

While Garrett has admitted to confronting the man and pouring the contents of a can on his head, she denies hitting him with it – a claim contradicted by witness testimony.
An independent witness provided a sworn statement about the incident, confirming the assault on the elderly Trump supporter.
The court affidavit read:
“During the altercation, the defendant struck the victim on the back of the head/shoulder area with a can she was holding. She then jumped over a fence and began walking away. This incident was witnessed by an independent witness, who later provided a sworn statement.”
This disturbing incident is just the latest example of the escalating hostility conservatives face for simply displaying their political beliefs in public.
The elderly victim was doing nothing more than exercising his constitutional right to free expression by wearing a hat supporting the President when he was targeted for violence.
The case has been forwarded to the State Attorney’s office for potential prosecution.
Garrett was booked into Pinellas County Jail and released the following night, raising concerns about whether dangerous anti-conservative agitators face appropriate consequences for their actions.
