In a significant departure from the political arena, a GOP U.S. Representative has officially resigned from Congress, with July 20 set as the final day.

Republican Congressman Mark Green’s exit was after waiting to cast one final crucial vote for President Trump’s border security bill.

The conservative congressman, who initially retired but then returned at Trump’s request, concludes his tenure as a steadfast defender of American security and a champion for veterans, leaving behind a legacy of prioritizing America’s interests.

Green announced July 20 would be his final day in office following his vote for what he called “the one Big Beautiful Bill,” focused on border security.

The Tennessee congressman’s decision to stay in office longer than initially planned to support Trump’s border security measures demonstrates his unwavering commitment to addressing the illegal immigration crisis that has plagued America under the past administration.

After serving in the House since 2019, Green leaves behind a distinguished record that includes chairing the Homeland Security Committee since 2023.

It also includes successfully leading the impeachment effort against former Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in February 2024.

His background as a combat veteran, emergency room doctor, and former state senator equipped him with unique perspectives that informed his policy positions throughout his congressional tenure.

Green’s political journey included an interesting twist last year when he initially announced his retirement, only to return to politics after receiving encouragement from constituents, colleagues, and most notably, Trump himself.

This demonstration of loyalty to both his District and the MAGA movement resulted in Green defeating Democrat Megan Barry to retain his congressional seat representing Tennessee’s 7th District in November.

“It’s with a heavy heart that I say farewell,” Green stated in his resignation announcement.

Beyond his work on border security, Green has been a consistent advocate for veterans, recently urging the Pentagon to investigate the link between time spent at Karshi-Khanabad Air Base and illnesses in veterans due to toxic exposure.

His commitment to those who served alongside him in uniform has been a hallmark of his congressional service, informed by his own experiences as a combat veteran.

Moreover, Green cited an exciting private sector opportunity as the reason for his departure, though he deliberately delayed his exit to ensure passage of President Trump’s border security legislation.

“My time here started with a fire to serve veterans, it continued with leading the historic impeachment of a cabinet secretary, and now it ends with achieving real border security. I am grateful my last vote was for the one Big Beautiful Bill,” the congressman posted on X.

As Green departs from Congress, he leaves behind a legacy of conservative leadership and principled governance.

His District, which includes Cheatham, Dickson, and parts of Davidson counties, will now face the challenge of finding a representative who can match Green’s dedication to conservative values, border security, and veteran advocacy.

In his parting message to constituents, Green expressed profound gratitude:

“To my constituents across Tennessee’s 7th District—thank you. The trust you put in me is humbling. I will look back fondly on my years of serving as your voice in Washington.”

Lastly, his departure marks the end of an era of steadfast conservative representation for Tennesseans who valued his America First approach to governance.
