NFL Star Goes Into Cardiac Arrest

(TheProudRepublic.com) – BJ Thompson, the star defensive lineman of the Kansas City Chiefs, has gone into cardiac arrest during a special teams meeting, causing the team to pause all activities.

On Thursday, the Kansas City Chiefs made the decision to halt all team-related activities in response to the significant medical emergency involving Thompson.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, during a meeting designated for special teams, Thompson experienced a severe medical crisis.

“Had a seizure in a special teams meeting and went into cardiac arrest,” Pelissero reported, cited by The New York Post.

BJ Thompson, who entered the NFL as a fifth-round draft selection from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2023, is currently reported to be in stable condition.

At the age of 25, Thompson, although he had limited playtime during his inaugural season, made a noticeable impact by securing two tackles in a critical Week 18 victory against the Chargers.

This contribution was significant for the Chiefs, who ultimately secured the championship title.

According to the report, the medical team of the Chiefs responded with prompt and effective measures during Thompson’s health crisis, ensuring immediate intervention.

Originally, head coach Andy Reid, along with a few players, was scheduled to address the media on Thursday.

However, this briefing has been postponed to Friday, as per a statement from NFL.com.

In a remarkable achievement earlier this year, Thompson was part of the Chiefs’ squad that clinched the Super Bowl title in February, triumphing over the 49ers in a thrilling overtime match.

Following this victory, Thompson, along with his teammates, was honored with a visit to the White House last week.

Reflecting on this momentous occasion, Thompson shared his exhilaration on social media, stating, “Posted at the White House got me feeling like the president.”

The journey to the NFL was a dream come true for Thompson, who was selected with the 166th overall pick by the Chiefs in April 2023. Celebrating this milestone, he shared his excitement on social media: “Turning Dreams To Reality.”

Looking ahead, the Chiefs are preparing for a busy schedule, beginning with their mandatory minicamp next Tuesday.

This precedes their training camp, which is set to begin later in the summer. The regular season opens for Kansas City with a home game on September 5, facing the Baltimore Ravens.

This game is not just a season opener but a rematch of the AFC Championship, setting the stage for a highly anticipated contest.
