(TheProudRepublic.com) – Showcasing her courage and patriotic spirit, an armed female bystander intervened in a violent altercation, defending a man who had just been shot in the face, according to a report from the Shelby Star.
In Shelby, North Carolina, at around 6 p.m., a verbal dispute broke out along a street between 33-year-old Unterio M. Jolly and another man. Capt. Seth Treadway provided details on the incident, stating that although the two men initially separated after the argument, Jolly returned approximately half an hour later. In a shocking turn of events, he allegedly shot the other man in the face.
A legally armed woman who witnessed the scene intervened at this critical juncture. According to police, she took action to protect the injured victim by shooting at Jolly. Capt. Treadway described the tense moments, saying, “Right after he does that … a concerned citizen shoots back trying to protect (the man) and hits Jolly about five times. She shoots him five times,” as reported by the Shelby Star.
The victim, fortunately, sustained injuries that were not life-threatening. As for Jolly, he is currently in critical but stable condition. Jolly now faces multiple charges, including felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm by a felon, and assault by pointing a gun.
In light of these events, Capt. Treadway said they would consult the District Attorney’s Office regarding Jolly’s charges. “We will consult with the District Attorney’s Office later in the day to see if those charges need to stay the same,” Treadway said. Additionally, he indicated that the woman who returned fire is not expected to face any charges.
The actions of the female bystander have brought to light how our right to bear arms is critical for self-defense in life-threatening situations.
