(TheProudRepublic.com) – Republican vice-presidential candidate J.D. Vance slammed Kamala Harris’ “astonishing” statement about the military after she claimed that no U.S. service members are currently in harm’s way.

During Tuesday night’s debate, Harris stated, “there is not one” U.S. service member currently in a combat or military zone around the world.

Vance said on Fox News’ “The Story with Martha MacCallum” that Harris evidently has no idea that U.S. service members are in harm’s way and that she has a “thin approach to public policy.”

“It’s astonishing for the vice president to say this,” Vance said. “Just a couple of weeks ago, you had American troops who were seriously injured, likely by Iranian-backed militias.”

He continued, “The fact that she actually serves as the vice president and is apparently unaware that the people who serve underneath her are not only in harm’s way, they’re not only in a combat zone, they have been actually injured in the last couple of weeks.”

Vance emphasized that Harris’ claims showed how thin and superficial her entire approach to public policy is, as she is a person who does not know what is going on.

Moreover, the Pentagon confirmed on August 13 that Iranian-backed militias injured eight U.S. service members in a drone attack in Syria earlier that month. The troops were treated for traumatic brain injuries and smoke inhalation caused by the attack.

Vance also criticized the Biden-Harris administration’s border policies, arguing they have allowed dangerous individuals to enter the U.S. and have weakened national security and the economy.

During the debate, Harris did not mention the 13 service members killed in Kabul, Afghanistan, during the chaotic withdrawal on August 26, 2021, when asked about exiting the region.

Similarly, Joe Biden previously claimed during a June 27 debate that he was the first president in a decade not to have Americans die overseas under his leadership.

On the third anniversary of the service members’ deaths, Republican nominee Donald Trump attended a memorial at Arlington National Cemetery while Biden was on vacation in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Harris did not attend any public events related to the service members’ deaths.
