(TheProudRepublic.com) – Rampant carjacking crime in Democrat-run Washington, DC, has claimed the life of a former Trump administration official, who was brutally shot by a serial carjacker before dying later in a local hospital.
The passing of Mike Gill, a former official in the administration of President Donald Trump, has been confirmed by his wife to Fox 5 News.
“It is with profound sadness that I wish to inform the community of the passing of my husband, Mike Gill. His sudden departure has left a void in our lives that can never be filled,” Kristina Gill stated.
Mike Gill served as the Chief of Staff at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission under the Trump administration.
He later became the Senior Vice President of Capital Markets at the Housing Policy Council, The Daily Caller reports.
The former Trump official was sitting in his parked car when the serial carjacker, Artell Cunningham, 28, allegedly entered the vehicle and shot him, according to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).
Cunningham then fled the scene. At the time of the police report, Gill was being treated for life-threatening injuries.
Approximately two hours after the initial incident, Cunningham allegedly attempted another carjacking. However, the victim managed to escape and call the police.
In a subsequent encounter, Cunningham allegedly demanded keys from a man and a woman, then shot the man, Alberto Vasquez, Jr., 45, who also died of his injuries at a local hospital.
The suspect reportedly stole Vasquez’s car and escaped. Cunningham is also accused of committing two additional carjackings that evening.
While driving one of the stolen vehicles, Cunningham reportedly opened fire on a police cruiser on the highway, though no officers were harmed, according to the MPD.
The series of violent crimes came to an end when New Carrollton police officers fatally shot Cunningham after he allegedly advanced toward them while armed.
Drew Maloney, President and CEO of the American Investment Council and a long-time friend of Gill, praised the former Trump official’s “warmth and kindness.”
“In this time of grief, we are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from family, friends, and the community, and extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has reached out to offer condolences and assistance,” Mike Gill’s wife said in her statement.
