Former President Donald Trump criticized Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) on social media for his Tuesday (July 4) stop in New Hampshire, labeling the Governor’s campaign as being in “total disarray.”
Using his nickname for the Florida Governor, “DeSanctimonious,” Trump took to Truth Social to suggest the Florida Governor had “absolutely ‘demolished'” his performance in New Hampshire.”
Trump noted DeSantis’s campaign event was characterized by “No crowds, no enthusiasm, no interest,” adding the Florida Governor’s campaign was “in total disarray.”
Trump claimed DeSantis was “hurting himself” for any 2028 hopes, highlighting that “loyalty does matter with Patriots!”
DeSantis, like several other GOP presidential candidates, took advantage of Independence Day to campaign in early primary states such as New Hampshire.
On the Fourth of July, several notable figures, including DeSantis, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, former Texas Representative Will Hurd, and South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, participated in a Merrimack, New Hampshire holiday parade. Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson was also present at the event.
Earlier in the day, DeSantis participated in a parade in Wolfeboro, N.H. Despite being caught in a downpour, he and his wife, Casey DeSantis, were seen shaking hands with bystanders in videos of the event.
Speaking to WMUR News, DeSantis shared that he and his wife “appreciate both parades,” and would do “much more” in the state, adding it was good to be able to spend Independence Day “with a bunch of patriotic America[ns].”
DeSantis is currently ranked second in most national polls but is still behind Trump, who is leading by a significant margin.
As for the Iowa campaign trail, several Republican figures like Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, former Vice President Mike Pence, radio host Larry Elder, and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, along with Burgum, participated in various festivities like 5K runs and parades to celebrate Independence Day.
On the other hand, Trump chose to mark the occasion by sending out a message through Truth Social.
