Showcasing his leadership with international negotiations, President Donald Trump announced that the last living American hostage in Gaza will soon return home to his family after being held for over a year.
Watch the video below.
Edan Alexander, an Israeli-American soldier held by Hamas since October 2023, is scheduled for release without conditions.
This diplomatic breakthrough showcases Trump’s renewed leadership in securing American hostages from terrorist groups after years of Biden administration failures.
Hamas confirmed they will free Alexander as a “goodwill gesture” toward the United States and regional mediators.
The release comes after intensive behind-the-scenes negotiations led by President Trump’s special envoys, with crucial mediation from Qatar and Egypt.
“I am happy to announce that Edan Alexander, an American citizen who has been held hostage since October 2023, is coming home to his family. I am grateful to all those involved in making this monumental news happen,” Trump stated in his announcement.
Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, will be traveling to Israel to facilitate the release process.
Meanwhile, US special envoy for hostage affairs Adam Boehler is accompanying Alexander’s parents from their home in Tenafly, New Jersey, to Israel for the emotional reunion with their son.
The release represents a significant foreign policy victory for the Trump administration.
Alexander’s freedom was secured without America offering any concessions to Hamas, unlike the questionable prisoner swaps that occurred under previous administrations.
Alexander’s story is particularly moving for many American patriots. Born in Israel but raised in the United States, he returned to Israel in 2022 to enlist in the Israeli military.

He was among those captured during Hamas’ brutal October 7, 2023, terrorist attack.
Trump administration officials have also used this opportunity to press for the return of the bodies of four deceased Americans still held by Hamas in Gaza.
Moreover, Adam Boehler called Alexander’s pending release “a positive step forward” while emphasizing that work remains to bring home all Americans.
Though 59 hostages remain in Gaza according to Israeli officials, Trump noted that only 21 are believed to still be alive.
The President’s successful negotiation for Alexander’s release may provide a template for securing the freedom of the remaining captives and bringing closure to their families.
Netanyahu’s office confirmed they were informed of Alexander’s release, underscoring that it comes without conditions or exchanges.
Ultimately, this diplomatic achievement comes as Trump prepares for a tour of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE to further strengthen America’s position in the Middle East.
The President’s America First foreign policy continues to deliver real results for American citizens while rebuilding relationships with key regional allies.
