(TheProudRepublic.com) – Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson is trying at all costs to protect former U.S. Representative Matt Gaetz against releasing the ethics report on him as a desperate attempt from the left to smear a rising conservative star.
Johnson’s principled stance protects congressional integrity while thwarting Democrats’ politically motivated witch hunt against President Donald Trump’s attorney general nominee.
Johnson announced he would “strongly request” that the House Ethics Committee withhold its report on Gaetz.
This decision comes as Gaetz, a staunch Trump ally, faces scrutiny following his nomination as attorney general in Trump’s upcoming administration.
“I’m going to strongly request that the Ethics Committee not issue the report, because that is not the way we do things in the House,” Johnson declared, emphasizing the importance of adhering to established protocols.
The Speaker’s decision contradicts demands from Senate Democrats, who are clamoring for the report’s release in a transparent attempt to obstruct Gaetz’s nomination.
Meanwhile, Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) said, “The sequence and timing of Mr. Gaetz’s resignation from the House raises serious questions about the contents of the House Ethics Committee report.”
“We cannot allow this valuable information from a bipartisan investigation to be hidden from the American people,” he added.
Durbin’s statement reeks of desperation as Democrats grasp at straws to derail the nomination of a conservative firebrand who promises to root out corruption in the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Their sudden concern for transparency is rich, given their history of burying inconvenient truths about their own party members.
Johnson’s principled stand safeguards the House Ethics Committee’s independence and prevents it from being weaponized for political gain.
By respecting the committee’s jurisdiction, which typically ends when a member leaves Congress, the Speaker is protecting the integrity of the entire ethics process.
“The rules of the House has always been that a former member is beyond the jurisdiction of the ethics committee,” Johnson said when asked if the public deserves to see the report.
Furthermore, it is worth noting that Gaetz has consistently denied any wrongdoing, and a separate DOJ investigation ended without charges.
As the left continues its relentless assault on conservative values and Trump supporters, Speaker Johnson’s principled stand serves as a fight for conservative Americans.
By refusing to play into the hands of those seeking to weaponize congressional processes, he is protecting not just Gaetz but the very foundations of representative democracy.
