Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) praised President Biden for his decision to make a surprise visit to Ukraine on Monday.

In the statement he released, Graham noted that he was “pleased” to see Biden making the time to visit Ukrainian President Zelensky. He added that this was the right time to send a signal of support and that Biden’s visit along with Vice President Harris’ statement at the Munich Security Conference about Russia committing crimes against humanity during their invasion of Ukraine, sends a “powerful” message.

During last week’s conference in Germany, Harris noted that the U.S. had officially concluded that during the invasion, Russia had committed crimes against humanity.

While Graham appears to be supportive of Biden’s visit to Ukraine, most other Republicans have slammed Biden for his decision to take an international trip. Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) have all criticized Biden for not focusing on domestic issues and instead taking an international trip to Ukraine.

Apart from the visit, Biden also announced an additional $500 million in aid to Ukraine. Graham has pushed for even more support to be provided to Ukraine and has urged the U.S. to send advanced fighter jets. Graham has said that “decisive action” is necessary for showing how much the remarks being made count. He added that Russia should be designated “a state sponsor of terrorism under U.S. law.”
