(TheProudRepublic.com) – Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) has raised serious concerns over the misuse of U.S. humanitarian aid in Gaza, as he alleged it was redirected to support the Hamas terrorist group.

In a letter to United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Samantha Power, Cotton called for an immediate halt to aid, citing inadequate oversight and risk of funds benefiting terrorists.

Cotton has accused the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) of misappropriating over a billion dollars intended for humanitarian aid in Gaza.

The alarming claims pointed to a systemic failure in aid distribution, where funds meant for relief are allegedly supporting Hamas. Despite these concerns, USAID announced $336 million in new funding for the region.

Moreover, Cotton’s letter emphasized that the current administration’s handling of these aid funds has undermined American interests and prolonged the Israel-Hamas conflict.

He also pointed to evidence that a Hamas leader, killed in an Israeli airstrike, was employed by UNRWA, calling into question the vetting process used by USAID and its partners.

UNRWA’s controversial employment ties and alleged infiltrations highlight a deep-seated issue in aid management.

Over 450 individuals linked to terrorist activities reportedly remain employed by the agency despite firings to address these allegations.

The usage of American taxpayer dollars on aid that potentially funds terrorism raises significant ethical and political questions.

Cotton (R-AR) wrote in the letter, “As I predicted would happen from the outset, credible reporting indicates that Hamas terrorists have diverted this aid; indisputable evidence demonstrates that the aid was always at high risk of diversion.”

“In all likelihood, the Biden-Harris administration has prolonged the Gaza war, allowed aid to flow to Israel’s enemies, and misused taxpayer funds,” he added.

USAID’s oversight mechanisms have come under intense scrutiny, and the Inspector General has identified vulnerabilities in the aid process.

Cotton’s call for a suspension of aid until these issues are rectified highlights the urgent need to re-evaluate partnerships with international organizations supposedly linked to extremist factions.

With Congress previously cutting funding to UNRWA over similar concerns, questions remain about ongoing partnerships and the resilience of vetting processes to prevent future misallocations.
