On Friday (July 22), at the Turning Point USA conference in Tampa, Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) revealed that if former President Donald Trump decides to run for President in 2024, many other Republican leaders would decide against their bids.

Discussing the possibility of a Trump presidential bid, Cruz noted that the former President is “going to do what he wants” in 2024, adding that Trump “will remain an incredibly important leader in the United States.”

When asked about the ramifications of a Trump 2024 bid on the Republican presidential primary, Cruz, who faced off against Trump in 2016, said, “I’m sure it clears it out significantly.”

The Texas Senator also noted that despite potential candidates denying a Trump bid would dissuade them from throwing their hat into the ring, this was a lie.
Instead, Cruz was adamant that “the lay of the land is everyone is waiting to see what Trump decides to do. Anyone who tells you they’re not is lying to you. And he’s going to decide on whatever time frame he desires.”

Cruz and Trump’s allegiance has come a long way since both men were vying for the Presidency, with Trump calling Cruz “Lying Ted” at the time.

But during Friday’s interview with Fox News Digital, Cruz —who’s become a firm ally for the former President — said, “I think he accomplished an enormous amount as President, and I was proud to work hand in hand with him in achieving results for the American people.”
