(TheProudRepublic.com) – In a shocking incident that highlights the growing instability in Haiti and the potential threats to American safety, gunfire raked Spirit Airlines flight as an airline plane was struck by gunfire while attempting to land in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
See the tweet below.
The attack left bullet holes in the plane’s overhead bins and a door, with a flight attendant, grazed by a bullet.
The flight was forced to divert to the Dominican Republic, leaving passengers stranded and exposing the dangerous conditions in Haiti.
This alarming event comes just two weeks after Spirit Airlines had temporarily suspended flights to Haiti due to a previous shooting incident involving a United Nations helicopter.
As a result of the attack, the airline suspended its services at Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haitien, which are pending further evaluation.
American Airlines is also suspending services from Miami to Port-au-Prince, while JetBlue anticipates disruptions and is waiving cancellation fees.
These actions by major airlines underscore the severity of the situation in Haiti and its potential impact on American travelers and businesses.
An airline spokesperson said in a statement, “The safety of our guests and team members is our top priority, and we have suspended our service at Port-au-Prince (PAP) and Cap-Haitien (CAP) pending further evaluation.”
Moreover, the U.S. State Department has issued a stark warning against travel to Haiti, citing ongoing violent political turmoil and gang-led efforts to block travel to and from Port-au-Prince.
This unrest follows the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in 2021 and subsequent political instability, with Prime Minister Ariel Henry delaying elections and fueling increased violence and civil unrest.
Meanwhile, the security situation in Haiti is described as unpredictable and dangerous, with the U.S. government unable to guarantee the safety of American citizens.
This chaos raises serious concerns about the potential for increased illegal immigration to the United States and the risks associated with an unsecured southern border.
As Haiti descends further into lawlessness, with the recent firing of interim Prime Minister Garry Conille and his replacement by Alix Didier Fils-Aimé amid ongoing gang violence, the Biden administration’s lax border policies become increasingly dangerous.
The potential for criminals and terrorists to exploit the chaos in Haiti and infiltrate the United States through our porous southern border is a grave threat to national security.
