One of the few Florida Republican Representatives to endorse Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in the 2024 Presidential race has expressed why she’s abandoning her fellow Florida GOP Representatives by backing the Florida Governor over former President Donald Trump.
On Wednesday (April 26), in an interview on Fox News “America’s Newsroom,” Rep. Laurel Lee (R-Fla.), who previously served in the DeSantis administration, discussed why she supports the governor, who she believes will inevitably announce his bid for the White House.
Lee explained that Florida was seeing “record growth,” with new businesses and new residents moving to Florida.
She added that Florida “remained open” and “free,” noting that DeSantis’ “success… speaks for itself.”
Lee continued that she has “every confidence that Ron DeSantis is the conservative leader” who can successfully lead the U.S. and form part of the next generation of truly conservative leaders.
The former Florida secretary of state also touted DeSantis’ willingness to fight “against corporate interests and special interests” to keep the economy strong and supports “law enforcement in our military,” which she asserted are things that resonate with Floridians and the American people.
Lee is the third House Republican to endorse DeSantis when she announced her support last week.
So far, Republican Reps. Chip Roy (Texas) and Thomas Massie (Kentucky) have also endorsed the Florida governor in the 2024 Presidential race.
While that’s an impressive figure for a politician who hasn’t announced a Presidential, more than 50 lawmakers have expressed support for Trump, including seven Florida Republicans in the lower Congressional chamber.
