(TheProudRepublic.com) – Following the endless recalls Americans face daily, the FDA issued a dire warning about Walmart broccoli, elevating the recall to the highest risk level due to potential listeria contamination, thus increasing the risk of death.

See the tweet below.

The recall involves 12-ounce bags of Marketside Broccoli Florets, which Braga Fresh voluntarily recalled.

The FDA has classified this as a “Class I” recall, their most critical level, indicating a “reasonable probability” of severe health consequences or death.

This classification underscores the gravity of the situation and the potential danger to consumers.

The FDA defines a Class I recall as “a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death”.

This stark warning should serve as a wake-up call to all Americans about the risks lurking in our food supply.

The recall affects 20 states: Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

The FDA said in a statement:

“Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria monocytogenes infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.”

Furthermore, Texas Health & Human Services discovered the potential contamination through random sampling, not through the FDA’s own inspection processes.

While no illnesses have been reported in connection to the recalled broccoli, the risk remains significant. Consumers are advised to discard the recalled product immediately.

The affected broccoli has a best-by date of December 10 and may still be in customers’ freezers, posing an ongoing threat to unsuspecting families.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a condition particularly dangerous for pregnant individuals, newborns, those with weakened immune systems, and adults over 65.

Symptoms can appear up to two weeks after exposure and include diarrhea, vomiting, fever, fatigue, muscle aches, headaches, confusion, and loss of balance.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of food safety and the need for constant vigilance in protecting America’s food supply.

It also highlights the critical role of state-level inspections in catching these potentially deadly contaminants.

As more information surfaced, the FDA and corporate entities were obligated to strengthen food safety oversight to prevent so-called “washed and ready-to-eat” products from endangering lives.
