Due to a surge in criminal activity, local law enforcement recommends buying airhorns and installing bars on doors and windows, according to a CNN report.
The city has witnessed a 41% increase in break-ins and over a 20% rise in muggings.
Local inhabitant, Toni Bird, heeded the police’s advice and now owns three airhorns. Bird remarked, “The current wave of crime appears more aggressive, with the repercussions feeling graver. It seems the criminals are particularly targeting those who are defenseless.”
On July 30, 2023, an elderly 75-year-old woman from Oakland was home alone. Though she had more than just an airhorn, when two purportedly armed individuals broke into her home.
In her defense, she fired a shot from her .357 Magnum revolver at the presumed invaders, as covered by KTVU. In retaliation, the suspects shot back several times before escaping.
Miraculously, the woman remained unharmed, leading her daughter to affectionately call her “Superwoman.”
