This was very unexpected but also not surprising.
This past weekend in an appearance on the popular “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi showed her support for the drag community while calling on Americans to vote.
The surprise appearance on season 7 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” saw Pelosi walk onto the center stage before briefly remarking on her support for the contestants and appreciation for the show before pivoting to voting.
Pelosi began her brief speech, “my honor to be here, to say to all of you how we proud we are of you.”
She continued, “Thank you for the joy and beauty you bring to the world. Your freedom of expression of yourselves in drag is what America is all about.”
The House Speaker then made a plea for people to “make their voices and their vote heard.”
Host of the show, RuPaul Andre Charles, responded by thanking Pelosi “for the work you’ve done and the work you continue to do tirelessly for our freedom,” before adding her “tenacity is something that we all look up to.”
This isn’t Pelosi’s first time making a cameo on the show. In 2018, Pelosi first appeared on the show espousing similar comments about the Drag community.
“This idea of people believing in themselves, being themselves, taking pride in themselves, is not just a lesson for politicians but for everyone in the country,” Pelosi said at that time.
Then, in the wake of Republican states passing perceived anti-transgender and anti-LGBTQ laws, like Florida’s “Don’t Say, Gay Bill,” Pelosi’s latest appearance was teased.
This season Pelosi won’t be the only cameo, RDR will feature guest appearances by Cameron Diaz, Ben Platt, and journalist Ronan Farrow among others.
