On Wednesday (May 3), the NRA mocked President Joe Biden for his 2020 pledge to “defeat” the group, claiming in a new video that Biden’s statement is “backfiring” as the majority of states have dropped permit requirements for individuals to conceal carry.

The video, first reported on by Fox News Digital, shows several members of the prominent gun rights group criticizing Biden for shouting about “taking our guns,” asserting the President’s “fascism” toward the Second Amendment rights was “in the minority.”

In the video, a young girl says, “While you were busy stocking your fridge with ice cream,” before being interrupted by other members of the NRA, who stated, “pro-America legislators… passed constitutional carry in 27 states” with the support of the NRA.

The ice cream reference is a dig at Biden, who has made several gaffes relating his seeming obsession with the frozen desert.

Just days before taking office, Biden promised to “defeat the NRA and end the epidemic of gun violence in America.”

Yet, since his pledge, 11 states have signed constitutional carry legislation.

In April, Florida became the 26th state with an NRA-endorsed permit-free carry law, meaning that most states now enable law-abiding citizens to carry concealed weapons.

Billy Mclaughlin, NRA Digital Director, noted that at the time Biden made his pledge — two weeks before being inaugurated — sixteen states had passed NRA-backed Constitutional Carry Legislation. Mclaughlin noted that since Biden made that pledge, the number of states that passed Constitutional Carry Legislation had risen by eleven voters.
