The campaign of GOP presidential candidate and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley branded Florida Governor Ron DeSantis a Donald Trump “without… the charm” ahead of DeSantis’s expected to jump into the 2024 Presidential Race this week.
According to reporting by Politico, Haley’s campaign manager Betsy Ankney suggested in a memo that the “Only glaring difference” between Trump and DeSantis is that DeSantis cannot interact with voters,” pointing to Scathing headlines about the Florida Governor’s “lack of basic people’s skills.”
“Ron DeSantis is like Trump, drama and all — but without any of the charm,” the memo reads.
Shortly after the midterms, Trump made his White House bid last year, and Haley announced her entry into the race in February.
The former president has been named the front-runner in hypothetical GOP primaries, while DeSantis has been named as a potential challenger — which, along with some of the Florida governor’s other moves, has led many to speculate that he might launch a campaign.
DeSantis is expected to officially join the campaign trail as early as May 24.
Referencing his entry, Haley shared a message with DeSantis last week: “Welcome to the race. We’ve been waiting,” it read.
The memo from Haley’s campaign manager also predicts that in the coming month, the GOP presidential primary field will be largely set while insisting voters want “a credible alternative” that will make a difference and “move beyond the drama” to give the GOP a “real chance” to beat Joe Biden, claiming that candidate is Haley, not DeSantis.
