(TheProudRepublic.com) – With crossings skyrocketing over 50 times compared to previous years, 19,000 illegal aliens’ have been apprehended in the Swanton sector under the inefficient Biden-Harris administration.
This historically quiet region now faces immense challenges, exposing the dire need for effective resource allocation and border management strategies.
Border Patrol data revealed a staggering 50-fold increase in illegal crossings at the US-Canada border, particularly in northern New York.
In fiscal year 2024, 19,000 illegal aliens from 97 countries were apprehended in the Swanton sector, which spans over 200 miles of border between Maine and the St. Lawrence River in New York.
This number jumps out when considering the 846% increase in illegal crossings since October, as Sector Chief Robert Garcia reported.
The surge is partly due to the Biden-Harris administration’s lack of asylum restrictions on the northern border, contrasting with policies enforced on the southern border.
Moreover, the oversight has left local residents in Swanton, Vermont, witnessing smuggling operations firsthand, with some advised to arm themselves for protection.
The sector’s limited barriers and law enforcement presence have undeniably contributed to the migration flow.
This alarming increase in border crossings comes amid a broader picture of migration dynamics facing the United States. Nearly 190,000 illegal aliens were caught crossing from Canada in fiscal year 2023, a figure over six times higher than in 2021.
Resources have been stretched thin as Border Patrol agents are reassigned from the northern border to handle the persistent high volume of crossings from Mexico.
“The executive order doesn’t affect us,” a Border Patrol source at the northern border previously said.
Meanwhile, Presidential Proclamation 10773 has temporarily suspended and limited the entry of certain illegals at the southern border, aimed to manage the high number of encounters.
Despite these efforts, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, alongside other representatives, has demanded immediate action to secure the northern border.
They have highlighted the massive increases in both migrant encounters and drug smuggling, which includes a 596% surge in drug seizure weight from fiscal year 2021 to 2022.
Amid these daunting statistics, Stefanik has criticized the Biden administration for the lack of adequate Border Patrol staffing and security measures along the Northern Border.
With only 2,019 Border Patrol agents covering 5,525 border miles, many are still assigned to the southern border, exacerbating the challenges.
In addition, a detailed plan from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has been called for to address both illegal migration and drug smuggling issues at the Northern Border.
As the situation evolves, it is crucial for the current government to implement effective policies that adequately address this crisis without compromising the nation’s safety and sovereignty.
