Florida Governor Ron DeSantis called former President Donald Trump’s recent attack on ex-White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, “really, really bad.”
On Friday (June 2), DeSantis relayed how even Trump’s “greatest supporters” have acknowledged how the former President had a challenging time “picking good people,” listing what he described as “terrible personnel decisions” that included Jerome Adams, his Surgeon General.
But claimed despite the “tough record,” McEnany was “one of the greatest selections,” adding, “She did a fantastic job.”
DeSantis made the remarks on the NH Journal Podcast.
DeSantis highlighted that McEnany was a Harvard-educated lawyer, “she’s an absolute killer, and she ate the press alive,” adding that for Trump to have resorted to “attacking her was really, really bad.”
The Florida Governor’s comments came after Trump published a post on Tuesday (May 30) on his Truth Social account criticizing McEnany, who served as White House Press Secretary during his presidency.
Calling McEnany “Kayleigh ‘Milktoast’ McEnany,” a misspelling of the slur “milquetoast,” Trump decried that she had given false polling numbers on Fox News.
He explained that he was leading DeSantis by 34 points, not 25, adding, “While 25 is great, it’s not 34.”
The former President also suggested that Fox News should stick to “REAL Stars!!!”
Trump’s criticism of McEnany was in response to the comments she made on Fox News, where she serves as a co-host and political commentator.
During an appearance on Jesse Watters Primetime Tuesday (May 30), McEnany discussed the current polls between Trump and DeSantis, saying the Florida governor is “closing the gap” in Iowa; however, the poll McEnany and Trump were referring to couldn’t be identified.
An Emerson College poll published last week found the former President leading DeSantis by 42 percentage points in Iowa.
