(TheProudRepublic.com) – The electric car revolution hit a bump as multinational and clean energy Tesla issued a recall for nearly 700,000 vehicles due to a critical flaw in the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

See the tweet below.

The malfunction places drivers at risk by failing to alert them of low tire pressure, potentially escalating the possibility of accidents.

Tesla’s recall targets the 2024 Cybertruck, 2017-2025 Model 3, and 2020-2025 Model Y models impacted by this TPMS concern.

Meanwhile, the defect causes the TPMS warning light to fail to stay illuminated between drives, a significant safety oversight.

Without proper alerts, drivers might unwittingly travel with underinflated tires, risking vehicle control and safety.

As per the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), “driving with improperly inflated tires increases the risk of a crash.”

In response, the company will push a free over-the-air software update to resolve the issue, utilizing its advanced capabilities in automotive software.

This strategy, while cost-effective and convenient for vehicle owners, still raises concerns about Tesla’s manufacturing and software quality control. This marks Tesla’s 15th recall in 2024 alone.

This recall also highlights broader challenges within the software-driven automotive industry, where robust testing and quality assurance are critical yet seemingly inconsistent.

Even though this update process is marketed as a “hallmark of the company’s technological prowess,” repeated recalls could dent consumer trust over time.

In addition to the OTA update, Tesla will notify affected owners via mail beginning February 15, 2025.

Until then, the giant automotive company advised vehicle owners to manually monitor their tire pressure to ensure optimal safety and vehicle performance.

Such a proactive approach is necessary as underinflated tires can drastically affect vehicle handling, especially during adverse weather conditions, like heavy rain or icy roads.

This action is part of Tesla’s ongoing commitment to maintaining its pioneering status in the electric vehicle market while prioritizing customer safety.

Although Tesla continues to dominate the EV space with innovative technologies, this scenario might serve as a reminder of the importance of balancing innovation with reliability and ensuring that cutting-edge advancements do not overshadow fundamental safety standards.
