(TheProudRepublic.com) – Americans cannot seem to escape disaster as another massive data breach exposed over 910,000 patients’ sensitive health information.

The ConnectOnCall breach affected a telehealth platform owned by Phreesia and compromised crucial medical data and personal identifiers.

The data breach occurred between February 16 and May 12, 2024, exposing sensitive patient information to unauthorized access.

The compromised data includes names, phone numbers, medical record numbers, birth dates, health conditions, treatments, prescriptions, and even Social Security Numbers in some cases.

This breach is particularly concerning because health data, unlike credit card information, cannot simply be changed or canceled.

Once exposed, it remains a permanent vulnerability that criminals can exploit for years to come.

Phreesia claims to have discovered the breach on May 12, 2024, and immediately contacted cybersecurity experts and notified federal law enforcement.

However, this response came after months of unauthorized access to patient data, raising questions about the company’s security measures.

While Phreesia has taken ConnectOnCall offline for security improvements, the damage has already been done.

The company is now scrambling to notify affected individuals and offering identity and credit monitoring services to those whose Social Security Numbers were compromised.

This incident underscores the growing threat to Americans’ privacy in the digital age.

As more sensitive information is stored and transmitted electronically, people become increasingly vulnerable to cyber-attacks and data breaches.

Due to the valuable nature of medical data, hackers have targeted the healthcare sector in particular.

Taking immediate action to protect yourself is crucial for those affected by this breach.

Among the recommendations are monitoring accounts closely, using strong passwords and two-factor authentication, and being on high alert for phishing scams that may exploit compromised information.
