MAGA Takes Aim At Kamala

( – Former President Donald Trump’s campaign and some of his MAGA allies launched a preventive strike on Kamala Harris, as they believe she might replace Joe Biden on the 2024 presidential ticket.

On social media and in multiple statements over the past 48 hours, Trump’s team and his Republican allies seem to be gearing up for an all-out assault on Harris, especially if the 81-year-old Democrat decides to end his reelection bid after his poor debate performance last week.

Though Biden has said he is not quitting the race, and Harris stands firmly behind him, the Trump campaign sees little risk in attacking her now. If Harris does become the nominee, she might do so in a weakened state.

Moreover, Republicans have often criticized 59-year-old Harris during Biden’s term, but this week’s attacks were sharper and more coordinated, likely because of the increased talk about her possibly replacing Biden.

The National Republican Congressional Committee called her Biden’s “enabler in chief.” MAGA Inc., a super PAC supporting Trump, called her the “invasion czar.”

In March 2021, Biden said Harris would lead efforts with Mexico and Central American countries to tackle illegal immigration. Yet, Republicans have since blamed her for failing to stop millions of migrants from crossing into the U.S., though she wasn’t directly responsible for securing the southern border.

Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson for the Trump campaign, said, “Kamala Harris is incompetent. She’s proven to be the weakest, worst vice president in history, and she has 100% supported Joe Biden in every single disastrous policy that he has implemented over the last four years.”

In addition, Trump’s criticisms of Harris are similar to how he undermined Ron DeSantis, his main Republican rival before the Florida governor joined the 2024 election primary race last year.

Corey Lewandowski, a longtime Trump adviser, told Reuters Harris is politically vulnerable because of her role in addressing illegal immigration, among other issues.

Despite her low approval ratings, a Reuters/Ipsos poll earlier this week showed Harris to be as strong an opponent to Trump as Biden. In a hypothetical matchup, Trump led Harris by just one percentage point, 43%-42%.

Before the June 27 debate, the Trump campaign started targeting Harris, releasing an attack ad online mocking her for repeating lines in her speeches.
