(TheProudRepublic.com) – As if Democrat vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz’s lie about his military rank was not enough of a bust for Kamala Harris’s campaign, the radical left Minnesota governor has been caught lying about another item in his biography, namely that he was the coach of a successful high school football team.
At the Democrat National Convention (DNC) on Wednesday, former athletes from the Mankato West High School football team prominently supported their previous “coach,” Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, as he accepted the Democrat nomination for vice president.
This endorsement highlighted a major theme of the evening: the transformative leadership of Walz during his tenure as a coach, The New York Post reports.
Despite the accolades, the portrayal of Walz as the catalyst for turning a struggling team into state champions sparked considerable debate on social media.
“In Minnesota, we trust a coach who turned a team that was 0-27 into state champions,” declared Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) during her address on the third evening of the DNC.
Ben Ingman, a former student who was also coached by Walz in basketball and track during his seventh-grade year at Mankato, reinforced this narrative.
“Coach Walz got us excited about what we might achieve together. He believed in us, and he helped us believe in each other. And his leadership stuck. That track team went on to win a state title, just like the football team,” he said.
The players’ appearance on stage, reminiscent of a pep rally, drew enthusiastic applause from the audience while the school’s anthem played in the backdrop.
However, commentators on social media criticized the accuracy of these accolades, noting Walz’s role was not as the head coach.
“Amy Klobuchar introduces Timothy Walz as a coach who ‘turned’ a team ‘into state champions.’ He was NEVER a head coach. He didn’t ‘turn’ anyone into state champions,” one individual critiqued on X.
Richard Grenell, a former US ambassador to Germany, clarified on X, “He was the Assistant Coach not the Coach.”
The sentiment of misplaced focus was echoed by another commentator: “Still really, really confused about why they keep pushing the ‘Coach Walz’ thing from a million years ago when Tim Walz was a volunteer assistant coach…why not focus on his Governorship…?…no…they just want to focus on Coach Walz… it’s strange.”
Walz’s association with Mankato spanned a decade from 1996 to 2006, where he contributed as the linebackers coach and defensive coordinator under head coach Rick Sutton until 2002, the year the team clinched its first state championship.
