(TheProudRepublic.com) – Blasting the left’s catastrophic illegal immigration policies, Republican firebrand Kari Lake, who is now running for the US Senate in Arizona, has ripped the Senate’s failed bill on the Southern Border as a “complete joke” while also slamming incumbent Senator Kyrsten Sinema.
In a Fox News interview on Sunday, Lake directed her criticism towards Sinema, a Democrat who has technically switched to the “Independent” label, for the latter’s role in leading the negotiations over the border security bill rejected earlier this month.
“Well, that was a complete joke — that bill, I mean — by Kyrsten Sinema, [an] Arizona Senator, who should know better, but she doesn’t spend enough time in Arizona understanding what’s happening,” Lake told Fox host Maria Bartiromo.
Lake, who was narrowly defeated in the 2022 Arizona gubernatorial race by Gov. Katie Hobbs (D), is now vying for a Senate seat against Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.).
The potential for Sinema to make a late entry into the race remains uncertain, as she has not publicly disclosed her intentions, The Hill points out in a report.
The contentious border deal saw extensive negotiations led by Sens. Chris Murphy (D-CT), James Lankford (R-OK), and Sinema, who declared her independence in 2022.
This agreement was part of a broader emergency foreign aid package, which also aimed to support Ukraine and Israel’s military efforts and security in the Indo-Pacific region.
This came after Senate Republicans demanded that any aid for Ukraine include measures for border security reform.
The package, which faced opposition from Republicans aligned with former President Trump, included significant Democratic concessions on border security. Lake criticized the allocation of funds in the bill.
“That bill sent, what? Ninety billion, $95 billion overseas to kill people, but spent zero building a border wall, which would actually keep people from coming across the border. It spent zero to really enforce detaining and deporting these people. They want these people to come in,” she argued.
“That’s the problem with so much of Washington, DC. They want people to come pouring in. They want the cheap labor,” Lake added.
She also took the opportunity to endorse Trump’s reelection, arguing that meaningful action on border security is challenging under President Biden’s administration.
“We have to rally behind him [Trump], stop this sideshow that Nikki Haley is trying, and really focus on President Trump, his incredible policies. He will shut this nonsense down on day one,” Lake declared.
