(TheProudRepublic.com) – In an effort that will be too little, too late after avoiding interviews and media questions for so long, Democrat presidential candidate Kamala Harris is finally scheduled for a collaborative TV interview together with her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
The TV appearance set to air on CNN this Thursday evening marks the first formal interview for the Democrat presidential nominee since she ascended to the top of the party’s ticket last month, following Joe Biden’s endorsement of her candidacy.
The Vice President and her vice-presidential candidate will engage in a conversation with CNN’s Dana Bash, who co-moderated the June 27 presidential debate—a pivotal event that disrupted Biden’s campaign.
CNN plans to broadcast this special interview at 9 p.m. Eastern Time during a prime-time slot, as Harris and Walz traverse the crucial battleground state of Georgia on a bus tour, National Review reports.
In stark contrast to her Republican adversary, Harris has maintained a low profile with the media since Biden withdrew from the race and declared her his preferred successor on July 21.
Her reticent approach to the press has not quelled the escalating criticisms, especially following the recent Democratic National Convention.
Harris had committed to conducting a formal interview or press conference by the end of this month.
Having launched her campaign just 37 days ago, Harris has seldom discussed the specifics of her policy agenda for this election cycle.
It is anticipated that in Thursday’s interview, she will elucidate on various policy shifts since her 2019 presidential campaign.
The Democratic nominee’s stance on key issues, including border security, has reportedly evolved significantly.
Harris, who previously opposed funding for a border wall, now supports allocating hundreds of millions of dollars towards the project to mitigate illegal immigration, as per a report by Axios.
This pivot has drawn accusations of inconsistency from the Trump campaign.
“How much longer will the mainstream media allow Kamala Harris to hide and use staff to speak on her behalf?” questioned Karoline Leavitt, the Trump campaign’s national press secretary, in a recent statement.
“It’s DAY 37 of ZERO interviews and Kamala’s anonymous campaign sources are now claiming she supports President Trump’s border wall — this is a preposterous and false claim,” Leavitt added.
While actively campaigning in various battleground states, Harris has sporadically responded to inquiries from reporters and participated in three interviews with social media influencers during last week’s DNC in Chicago.
Additionally, she conducted an informal interview where she and Walz discussed “white-guy tacos.”
