(TheProudRepublic.com) – In a major win for the GOP on the eve of the General Election, Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court blocked the counting of mail-in ballots without handwritten dates for the 2024 election.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s ruling overturns a previous Commonwealth Court decision that had deemed the handwritten date requirement unconstitutional.

This reversal came after an appeal by the Pennsylvania GOP, demonstrating the party’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the electoral system.

In a scathing rebuke of the lower court, Justice Kevin Dougherty emphasized the importance of adhering to established election laws during ongoing elections, saying:

“’This Court will neither impose nor countenance substantial alterations to existing laws and procedures during the pendency of an ongoing election.’”

“We said those carefully chosen words only weeks ago. Yet they apparently were not heard in the Commonwealth Court, the very court where the bulk of election litigation unfolds,” he added.

This ruling is a significant setback for Democrats and their allies who have been pushing to undermine the date requirement on mail-in ballots.

The court has rightly rejected their thinly veiled attempts to ease the process for election workers by removing crucial safeguards.

Moreover, the Pennsylvania Department of State, which had submitted a brief supporting the change under the guise of easing burdens on election workers, now faces a clear mandate to uphold the law as written.

Notably, this marks the second time in a month that the Pennsylvania Supreme Court has halted efforts to remove the dating requirement, underscoring the court’s commitment to maintaining existing election laws and procedures.

Dougherty added:

“Today’s order, which I join, rights the ship. And it sends a loud message to all courts in this Commonwealth: in declaring we would not countenance substantial alterations to existing laws and procedures during the pendency of an ongoing election, we said what we meant and meant what we said.”

Meanwhile, Pennsylvania Republicans have rightly celebrated this ruling as a victory for election integrity.

Their steadfast opposition to Democrat attempts to weaken voting safeguards has paid off, ensuring that the 2024 election in Pennsylvania will be conducted with proper checks and balances.
