Manchester, New Hampshire police are renewing calls for public assistance in solving what they are calling a “suspicious death” of a baby discarded in Pine Island Park.

Authorities believe the infant was placed in the water between March 25 and March 27, before being discovered on Thursday afternoon.

The investigation has generated approximately 50 tips so far, but police still lack crucial information about who abandoned the newborn and why, leading them to offer a $2,500 cash reward for information.

Manchester Police Chief Peter Marr has specifically asked the community to report anyone who was recently pregnant but no longer has a newborn with them.

This request suggests authorities are concerned this may be a case of a mother disposing of her child rather than seeking proper help through safe haven laws or adoption services available throughout New Hampshire.

The case highlights the tragic consequences when mothers in crisis do not use legal options like safe haven laws, which allow parents to surrender newborns at hospitals or fire stations without prosecution.

Instead of these life-affirming choices, someone chose to discard this child, robbing her of the chance at life and a loving adoptive home.

Meanwhile, police have not disclosed the exact age of the infant or details from the autopsy, but they are treating the death as suspicious.

Investigators have not ruled out that the birth may have occurred outside Manchester, expanding the search for information beyond city borders.

The New Hampshire State Police K-9 Unit has been actively searching the pond’s surrounding area.

Former County Attorney Patricia LaFrance noted that someone coming forward now could receive reduced charges.

“We need to be able to provide help for her, and we’re also trying to seek justice for this baby,” Chief Marr emphasized in a plea directed at the mother.

“Come forward, tell us what happened. At the end of the day, you know, if she needs help, we need to be able to provide that help for her, and we’re also trying to seek justice for this baby,” he added.

Authorities are seeking witnesses who may have seen anyone discarding something in the pond or who might have photos or videos taken at Pine Island Park during the critical timeframe.

Information can be reported to Manchester Police or anonymously to Manchester Crimeline.

This heartbreaking case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of supporting mothers in crisis while protecting innocent unborn and newborn lives.

As the investigation continues, the community awaits justice for a child whose life was cut tragically short before it truly began.
