(TheProudRepublic.com) – In response to recent terrorist attacks in New Orleans and Las Vegas, Washington, D.C. is ramping up security measures to unprecedented levels as it prepares for a series of high-profile events.
See the tweet below.
With the Electoral College certification, former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral, and the presidential inauguration on the horizon, law enforcement is taking no chances.
The U.S. Secret Service is leading the charge, working closely with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of these crucial events.
For the first time ever, the Electoral College certification has been designated as a National Special Security Event, a direct response to the previous attack on the U.S. Capitol that shook the nation to its core.
Matthew Young, a spokesperson for the Secret Service, stated:
“While we cannot comment on protective means or methods, what we can say is that we will continue to work with our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners in assessing the ever-changing threat landscape and will adjust our security plans as needed.
“Our mission is to provide a safe and secure environment for our protectees, and all individuals involved in these events,” he added.
The heightened security measures come in the wake of a devastating terrorist attack in New Orleans, where 15 people died and 37 others were injured when a truck was driven onto Bourbon Street.
Adding to the nation’s concerns, an explosion involving a Tesla Cybertruck occurred outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas.
In response to these threats, anti-scale fencing has been erected around key areas in Washington, D.C., reminiscent of the protective measures taken after the January 6th incident.
The Metropolitan Police Department has increased its presence across the city, despite claiming there are no known threats.
“There is no known threat to the District of Columbia, out of an abundance of caution, MPD has heightened its security posture across the city in light of recent events,” the Metropolitan Police Department stated.
“Whenever an incident occurs in the country, MPD closely monitors the situation, evaluates intelligence and assesses our security posture,” it continued.
Moreover, road closures and stricter parking policies are expected, potentially infringing on citizens’ freedom of movement.
The Metro Transit Police have also increased security across the public transportation system, despite claiming there are no known threats.
As Washington, D.C., braces for this unprecedented period of high-profile events, America is facing threats and law enforcement agencies are working overtime to protect American institutions.
