(TheProudRepublic.com) – In a resounding victory for America and its ecosystems, the dreaded “murder hornet” has been eradicated from the U.S.
Watch the video below.
The northern giant hornet, also known as the “murder hornet,” first reared its ugly head in Washington state near the Canadian border in 2019.
These massive insects, capable of growing up to 2 inches long, were formerly called Asian giant hornets; they gained attention in 2013 when they killed 42 people in China and seriously injured 1,675.
In addition, the hornets were first detected in North America in August 2019 in British Columbia, Canada, and confirmed in Washington state in December 2019, when a Whatcom County resident reported a specimen.
A beekeeper also reported hives being attacked and turned over specimens in the summer of 2020. Experts said the hornets could have traveled to North America in plant pots or shipping containers.
DNA evidence suggested that British Columbia and Washington populations were unrelated and appeared to originate from different countries.
There also have been no confirmed reports in British Columbia since 2021, and the nonprofit Invasive Species Centre in Canada has said the hornet is also considered eradicated there.
Thanks to the relentless efforts of patriotic Americans and dedicated government officials, the Washington and U.S. Departments of Agriculture proudly announced the complete eradication of this menace from the country.
Residents actively defended their communities by placing traps and reporting sightings, while researchers employed cutting-edge tracking technology to locate and destroy hornet nests.
Officials said that scientists destroyed the nest just as a number of queens were beginning to emerge.
“I’ve gotta tell you, as an entomologist I’ve been doing this for over 25 years now, and it is a rare day when the humans actually get to win one against the insects,” Sven Spichiger, pest program manager of the Washington state department of agriculture, stated in a virtual news conference.
The threat posed by these Asian invaders cannot be overstated. They can destroy an entire honeybee hive in just 90 minutes and deliver a sting powerful enough to penetrate most beekeeper suits.
