A new survey by the conservative Club for Growth shows that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has taken a 9-point lead in a hypothetical race against former President Trump in the 2024 Republican primary.

Currently, DeSantis is viewed as one of the biggest threats to Trump’s ability to win the White House again in 2024. The survey specifically showed that 49 percent of people preferred DeSantis to Trump.

However, these are not the only two people considered to be prospective presidential candidates.

A separate seven-person primary poll showed that Trump is currently winning in a hypothetical matchup against DeSantis by 37 percent to 33 percent. While Trump announced his presidential campaign in November, there has been a lack of enthusiasm surrounding the possibility of him winning a second term in the White House.

DeSantis on the other hand has not yet disclosed whether or not he would be running for the White House. Especially following his extremely successful reelection campaign in the 2022 midterm election, many have speculated that the Florida governor is planning on announcing his presidential campaign soon.

Club for Growth President David McIntosh told The Hill that as a group they had extended invitations to their donor retreat to all potential candidates that appeared in the poll, including DeSantis, Pence, Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley. Former President Donald Trump was the only one to have been excluded from this.
