Thursday (August 4) morning is when Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ (R) will be making a “major” announcement, according to DeSantis’ press secretary.
On Wednesday night, Christina Pushaw, DeSantis’ press secretary, took to Twitter with a cryptic statement.
“MAJOR announcement tomorrow morning from @GovRonDeSantis. Prepare for the liberal media meltdown of the year. Everyone get some rest,” she tweeted.
Her tweet caused a flurry of speculation that DeSantis — a popular figure within the GOP — would be announcing his 2024 campaign.
DeSantis has consistently placed in GOP polls, growing to be one of the most viable candidates for 2024, often coming within a few points of former President Donald Trump.
But Pushaw was adamant to shoot down the suggestion after one Twitter user mentioned DeSantis leading internal polling by “15 points.”
“I’m a state spokesperson so I don’t see internal polls. I can tell you this is an official announcement not a campaign one,” she tweeted in response.
Other guesses included a visit to Taiwan, which Pushaw denied, saying DeSantis is “focused on Florida as always.”
Another user joked, “Hes changing his pronouns to they/them.”
Speculation also arose that he would be announcing joining Trump’s 2024 ticket as Vice President, banning masks, or suing President Joe Biden.
Eventually, many users begged for a hint, which Pushaw didn’t provide, noting that it wouldn’t be a surprise if she did that.
The announcement’s time is yet to be confirmed.
