Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) criticized the GOP for causing panic about the unfounded rumors that the Biden administration would be banning gas stoves.
In his statement mocking Republicans’ assertions, Schumer noted, “At first you have to laugh at the ‘gas stove ban’ narrative being cooked up by the MAGA GOP.”
Schumer accused the GOP of using the narrative of the gas stove ban because they didn’t want to explain which spending cuts they would be pursuing, saying Republican lawmakers “are trying to get this spaghetti to stick and distract the American people.”
Schumer also explained that both the Energy Department and the commissioner of the Consumer Product Safety Commission denied that there had been any talks about plans to declare gas stoves unsafe.
Schumer emphasized this in the subject of the press release, which stated, “Nobody is taking away your gas stove.”
The Senate Majority Leader called out the GOP, saying he was challenging “MAGA Republicans” to “show the American people they can get things done” and stop the “ridiculous gas stove strategy.”
Schumer demanded that the GOP show Americans their “plan” regarding the debt ceiling.
Schumer released his statement on Friday (February 3), a day after centrist Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin (W.Va.) teamed up with Republican Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) on the proposed Gas Stove Protection and Freedom Act.
Schumer’s statement is an attempt to douse rumors that there would be a ban on gas stoves.
