(TheProudRepublic.com) – It seems that the TV sitcom ‘Friends’ former star Jennifer Aniston was involved in an extremely dangerous situation as police officers were called to her home because someone was inside.
According to TMZ, a man contacted law enforcement, saying his friend “was not doing well” and made references to seeing the person “on the other side.”
He promptly requested a welfare check and gave Aniston’s address.
In addition, TMZ reported that officers arrived just after midnight and were met by security, who seemed puzzled by their presence.
The police did not realize whose home they had been sent to until they completed the welfare check and spoke directly with the Hollywood star.
Still, the 55-year-old actress assured them she was fine and had no thoughts of self-harm. At that point, it became clear the incident was a case of swatting.
In a statement, Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) confirmed that “officers responded to a welfare check” and that they then “determined the radio call was a swatting incident.”
A swatting incident is when a prank call is made to the emergency services to set up a response to a specific location, such as the home of a politician or other public figure, with the aim of getting the authorities, possibly a SWAT team, to appear at the address.
Moreover, the TV outlet stated that police updated their records and noted that if another welfare call came in for that address, they would check in with security first to avoid disturbing Aniston.
Authorities are still investigating the swatting call, trying to determine who was behind it and why they pulled this prank.
Aniston was not the first celebrity to be targeted in a swatting incident.
Other stars, like Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and Justin Bieber, have also been victims of these false reports.
