(TheProudRepublic.com) – In a heroic move to safeguard America’s election process, Georgia’s Secretary of State’s office successfully stopped a massive foreign cyberattack on their voter registration website.

The attack, involving over 420,000 IP addresses from around the world, targeted the state’s absentee ballot request system on October 14, the first day of early voting.

The cyberattack, which began at 5:16 p.m., significantly disrupted the absentee ballot request process.

Georgia’s cybersecurity team quickly took action, identifying and mitigating the threat. By 5:40 p.m., they had restored normal site traffic levels.

The Georgia Secretary of State’s office’s chief operating officer, Gabriel Sterling, praised the cybersecurity team’s efforts, stating, “This was a big win for our cyber security team and our partners. We work every day to protect Georgia voters and our systems.”

The attack’s origin remains unclear, but there is evidence of proxy use from at least 20 countries.

This sophisticated attempt to overwhelm the site with requests, potentially shutting it down, bears all the hallmarks of a foreign state-sponsored operation.

Federal officials have yet to confirm the source of the breach, raising concerns about the ongoing threat to the electoral integrity.

“We saw a spike of around 420,000 individual entities attempting to access the absentee ballot portal,” Sterling told reporters, highlighting the scale of the attack.

He added, “We identified it and attempted to mitigate it immediately, and you see it start to drop back down.”

Despite the attack’s severity, Georgia’s election officials ensured that absentee ballot access was not disrupted.

As Georgia emerges as a crucial battleground state for the 2024 presidential election, the importance of securing the voting systems cannot be overstated.
