(TheProudRepublic.com) – In a series of recent operations, the U.S. Coast Guard intercepted dozens of illegal aliens from entering the country near Puerto Rico and sent them back to their countries of origin.
In one operation, 27 illegals from Haiti and the Dominican Republic were stopped near Mona Island.
Another interception involved 23 Dominican Republic illegals on a 25-foot vessel south of Mona Island. Four illegals from one vessel were taken into custody for prosecution.
Coast Guard Commander Gerard Wenk highlighted the dangers, stating, “Unlawful irregular migration voyages most often take place aboard grossly overloaded makeshift vessels with no lifesaving equipment.”
He added, “The vessels are always taking on water and in danger of capsizing, especially during the night.”
He also underscored that many illegals do not realize the danger they are in until it is too late.
The scale of this crisis is staggering. From October 1, 2023, to January 12, 2024, the Coast Guard intercepted 24 illegal migration voyages in the Mona Passage alone, involving 811 non-U.S. citizens.
Moreover, Coast Guard Commander Matthew Roman emphasized the dangers of these illegal crossings and the importance of lawful immigration channels:
“These voyages are extremely unsafe, most often occurring aboard makeshift and unseaworthy vessels that take on water and have no lifesaving equipment onboard.”
“By taking to the sea in one of these voyages you will be putting your life and the lives of others at risk. Instead, seek safe and lawful migration pathways,” he continued.
Meanwhile, the Harris-Biden administration’s weak border policies have created a magnet for illegal immigration, encouraging more people to attempt these dangerous sea crossings.
