As Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) faces a challenging primary since becoming one of former President Donald Trump’s Republican enemies, she’s brought on the help of her dad, Dick Cheney, in her recent ad campaign.
In an ad released on Thursday (August 4), Dick Cheney calls Trump a “coward” and “a threat to our republic,” as he stumps for his daughter weeks before Wyoming voters head to the polls.
The one-minute ad titled “He Knows It,” includes a Scathing segment from the senior Cheney, which says, “In our nation’s 246-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump. He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him.”
Using the title phrase, Cheney concludes, “He is a coward. A real man wouldn’t lie to his supporters. He lost his election, and he lost big. I know it, he knows it, and, deep down, I think most Republicans know it.”
Liz Cheney, who now faces Trump-Backed Harriet Hagerman in the GOP primary, vying for Wyoming’s only seat in the house, first gained the former President’s ire when she voted to impeach him after the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. After losing her position in GOP leadership because of her vote, Cheney joined the Jan. 6 Select Committee, becoming one of only two Republicans on the committee.
Noting that his daughter went against the grain, Dick Cheney offers his endorsement for his daughter, saying he and his wife are “proud” of their “fearless” daughter.
The senior Cheney also adds, “There is nothing more important she will ever do than lead the effort to make sure Donald Trump is never again near the Oval Office again. And she will succeed. I am Dick Cheney. I proudly voted for my daughter. I hope you will too.”
