(TheProudRepublic.com) – With holiday season around the corner, the Food Drug Administration’s (FDA) latest move to ban Red Dye No. 3 could probably be more than another example of government overreach and nanny state policies.
See the tweet below.
The agency is considering banning artificial red food dyes, specifically Red No. 3 and Red No. 40, citing vague “health concerns.”
This potential ban would affect nearly 3,000 food products, including popular snacks, beverages, and candies that millions of Americans enjoy daily.
While the FDA asserted to be acting in the interest of public health, the truth is that these dyes have been safely used for decades.
The push to ban these dyes seems to be driven more by liberal activists and politicians than by solid scientific evidence.
Frank Pallone Jr., a Democrat congressman, dramatically claimed, “With the holiday season in full swing where sweet treats are abundant, it is frightening that this chemical remains hidden in these foods that we and our children are eating.”
Even Robert F. Kennedy Jr., known for his controversial stances on public health issues, has weighed in on the matter.
“There are some departments such as the nutrition departments in the FDA that have to go, that are not doing their job, they are not protecting our kids,” he stated.
The FDA’s lack of a formal post-market review process for substances already in the food supply is concerning.
Unlike Europe, which has been conducting such reviews for over 20 years, America’s regulatory bodies seem more interested in knee-jerk reactions to public pressure than in maintaining a consistent, science-based approach to food safety.
Furthermore, it is worth noting that some states, including California, Illinois, and New York – all controlled by Democrats – are introducing legislation to ban certain artificial dyes in food and beverages.
“There is simply no reason for this chemical to be in our food except to entice and mislead consumers by changing the color of their food so it looks more appealing,” Pallone added.
Pallone’s statement reveals the true agenda behind this ban – it is not about safety but about controlling consumer choices and attacking businesses.
The idea that making food visually appealing is somehow deceptive is absurd and insulting to consumers’ intelligence.
Americans should be free to make their own decisions about what they eat and feed their families. If consumers are concerned about artificial dyes, they can choose products that do not contain them.
Many food manufacturers have already voluntarily removed artificial dyes from their products in response to market demands – proof that the free market, not government mandates, is the best way to address these issues.
The FDA reviews the safety of these dyes and considers changes to its evaluation process, with public comments open until January 2025.
A letter written to FDA by 23 members of Congress urges the agency to ban from food use red dye 3, a controversial synthetic colorant that is potentially harmful to human health.
