BREAKING NEWS: Finally addressing years of leftist bias at the taxpayer-funded broadcaster, the Trump administration and Senior Advisor for the U.S. Agency for Global Media Kari Lake followed through and fired nearly 600 employees from Voice of America.
See the tweet below.
This major workforce reduction targets mainly contracted workers accused of promoting anti-American messaging, signaling President Trump’s commitment to draining the swamp of government waste and liberal propaganda.
Kari Lake, appointed by Trump to oversee the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), confirmed 584 terminations as part of the administration’s broader effort to reform federal agencies.
The cuts represent approximately one-third of VOA’s workforce and align with Trump’s March 14 executive order that placed most of the broadcaster’s 1,300 staffers on administrative leave.
“In accordance with President Trump’s executive order dated March 14, we are in the process of rightsizing the agency and reducing the federal bureaucracy to meet administration priorities,” Lake stated, adding ominously for swamp-dwellers, “Buckle up, there’s more to come.”
The White House has long criticized VOA for its leftist slant, even referring to it as the “Voice of Radical America.”
During the past administration, the broadcaster had strayed far from its original mission of American values and achievements to global audiences, instead pushing progressive talking points that undermined American interests abroad.
Lake has announced plans to partner with conservative media outlet One America News, signaling a significant shift in editorial direction.
She also emphasized that under new leadership, VOA will return to its core mission of showcasing America’s successes on the world stage.
“It would be an absolute shame to let the fake news cover America’s resurgence under Trump without pushback,” Lake wrote in one social media post after she was named its top advisor.
“At Voice of America, we’re going to make sure that doesn’t happen,” she added.
The terminations are effective May 30, with affected employees instructed to return all VOA property.
Among those losing their jobs are J-1 visa holders who must leave the United States within 30 days.
Liberal advocacy group Save VOA is working with lawyers to challenge the terminations.
VOA director Michael Abramowitz, a holdover from previous administrations, expressed displeasure with the cuts:
“I find this action inexplicable, and to my knowledge, no rationale has been provided by USAGM for this decision.”
The Trump administration has also put the Wilber J. Cohen building, which houses Voice of America, up for rent – another sign of the comprehensive overhaul underway at the agency that broadcasts in 49 languages and previously claimed an audience of 354 million weekly viewers.
Despite objections from liberal judges who have attempted to block the reforms through recent court orders, the administration has proceeded with its plans to streamline operations and refocus the agency on its original purpose.
The Trump administration’s bold move has resulted in the notable downsizing of one of America’s key international broadcasters.
Whether this realignment will bolster or hinder U.S. influence abroad remains to be seen.
