(TheProudRepublic.com) – In a bombshell revelation, Senator Josh Hawley disclosed that the agents tasked with protecting GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump during the assassination attempt were from Homeland Security and had minimal training in protection.
According to Hawley (R-MO) in an interview on “Jesse Watters Primetime,” instead of having a full contingent of Secret Service agents at the July 13 rally, Trump was mostly guarded by Homeland Security personnel who had only completed a brief online webinar for training.
“A two-hour, online webinar. And I’m told that half the time, the sounds to the webinar didn’t even work,” Hawley said.
“So think about this: The former president of the US … is sent out on stage, most of the people there are not trained, they’re not qualified. They only got a webinar training and even that didn’t work,” he scoffed.
“It is absolutely outrageous,” he added.
Moreover, Hawley mentioned that these Homeland Security agents were reportedly pulled from important child exploitation cases and other investigations to provide protection for Trump, which was not part of their usual duties.
He also criticized the Secret Service and FBI for not providing more details about the rally, where Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt by shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks.
“The only reason we have this information is because of whistleblowers,” he told Watters.
In addition, Representative Clay Higgins (R-LA) recently disclosed that it was a Butler SWAT team that first fired shots, damaging Crooks’ rifle and stopping the shooting spree before the Secret Service intervened.
Watters pointed out that when acting Secret Service director Ronald Rowe Jr. testified before Congress about the incident on July 31, he did not mention the role of the local SWAT team.
