The American Airlines flight, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, took off from JFK International Airport at 8:14 p.m., carrying 199 passengers plus crew.
While soaring over the Caspian Sea, a sudden bomb threat emerged via email, causing immediate concern and alarm among passengers and crew.
This forced the flight to divert to Rome, a decision that prioritized the safety and security of all passengers.

Escorted by two fighter jets, the aircraft safely landed at Rome’s Fiumicino airport, greeted by fire trucks on the runway—a sight that was hardly reassuring for the individuals onboard.
All passengers were able to deboard safely and received immediate assistance. At the same time, comprehensive security checks were carried out to dispel any potential threat to their safety.
American Airlines issued a statement:
“AA 292, operating from New York to Delhi, has been diverted to Rome due to a potential security threat onboard. We are working closely with local authorities and will provide updates as the situation develops. We appreciate the patience and cooperation of our passengers.”
Moreover, the US Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that the security issue was taken seriously, although the bomb threat was later deemed unfounded.
