President Joe Biden is not fond of eating vegetables. His poor diet choices reportedly cause constant battles between him and First Lady Jill Biden, who wants him to be healthy before the 2024 presidential campaign.
Biden, who turned 80 in November, eats “like a child,” Axios reported Monday (May 8), citing White House aides.
According to the publication, an “internal tug-of-war” was going on in the White House centered on Biden’s diet being one of the private steps that close aides and the first lady have taken to keep the President healthy ahead of a grueling campaign season.
Biden’s current and former aides say his favorite foods include peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, BLTs, pizza, cookies, spaghetti with butter and red sauce, and ice cream, which he occasionally makes into a full sundae.
He does not drink alcohol but enjoys orange Gatorade.
To Biden’s chagrin, the First Lady is encouraging him to eat more fish and leafy greens.
Although questions about whether Biden is ready to take on another term as commander-in-chief have been around for months, they have focused mostly on his age and mental capacity.
But some GOP insiders now say the President’s diet is a gauge for how ready Biden is to tackle the world’s toughest job again.
One Republican strategist, quoted by Fox News Digital, suggested Biden retire and not campaign if he “wants to eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches all day.”
But Biden isn’t the first President to have his dietary choices scrutinized; former President Donald Trump famously loved McDonald’s, even crediting their fries as the reason his hair hasn’t fallen out.
