Concerning the life-threatening condition, the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic states:
Sleep apnea is a dangerous condition because it can cause several different complications, many of which are severe or life-threatening. These include:
- Heart damage and heart failure
- Arrhythmias, especially atrial fibrillation
- Sudden cardiac death
- Daytime drowsiness
As for how Biden’s condition became known, news about Biden’s health and the use of this machine came to light after Bloomberg News began inquiring about noticeable marks on his face during a casual interaction with the press on the White House lawn. This came after several members of the media noticed these subtle lines on his face during prior events.
At 80 years old, Biden is the oldest president in U.S. history, and he’s hoping for re-election next year. However, there have been questions about his physical and mental capacity to continue serving.
The clear strap marks seen on Biden’s face during Wednesday’s event sparked a flurry of online speculation, with several fellow CPAP machine users indicating that they recognized where these marks came from.
While two White House officials have confirmed to Bloomberg News about Biden’s usage of the CPAP machine, official comment from Biden’s press team has not been promptly provided.
