President Biden is reportedly not going to be attending the coronation of King Charles III next month, according to a source familiar with the matter. The source further disclosed that first lady Jill Biden, along with a delegation would be attending the coronation in the United Kingdom which is set to take place on May 6.
News regarding Biden’s plan for not attending was first reported in the Washington Post. Biden’s decision to skip the coronation does fall in line with historic tradition, as then-President Eisenhower had also chosen to not attend the last coronation for Queen Elizabeth II and had instead selected a delegation to attend the event in his place.
Biden did attend Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September, along with several other leaders from across the world. According to the report by the Post, there are a few who have taken offense with Biden’s decision to not attend the coronation.
Bob Seely, a Conservative member of the British Parliament during a recent interview with the Telegraph, addressed the rumors that Biden would not be attending the coronation by stating that “It seems pretty remiss. He further added that he is “tempted” to suggest that a number of people would “fool him for not coming.” He finally noted that this is a “once in a lifetime event” and as the head of state he should be attending it.
