This was surprising.
According to a report by NBC News on Tuesday (May 31), President Joe Biden is seemingly frustrated with White House staff for walking back his statements and moving to “rush to explain” something the President said.
The NBC report stated that the “clean up campaign… undermines him and smothers the authenticity that fueled his rise. Worse, it feeds a Republican talking point that he’s not fully in command.”
In the last few months, the White House has had to walk back several statements made by Biden, including statements he made about Russian President Vladimir Putin “cannot remain in power.”
The President has also expressed anger that his comments are being seen as unpredictable.
Pushing back at the NBC reports, White House Spokesperson Andrew Bates, stated, “The breathlessness of paragraphs 1 & 2 versus the denial being relegated to graph 28 tells you what you need to know about this story. And as we’ve said before, no clarifications of the President’s remarks are ever issued without his direct approval.”
