What was he thinking?
Following President Joe Biden’s latest gaffe, Senator Tom Cotton (R-Ark), Tesla CEO Elon Musk, and a host of other Twitter users took the platform on Friday (July 8) to berate the President.
The gaffe, which drew the attention of thousands of social media users, came while Biden was explaining an executive order he signed on Friday that would provide woken seeking abortions limited protections.
With Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra standing on either side of Biden, the President explained his order to the press and the nation and emphasized his commitment to protecting women’s abortion access rights.
However, during his speech, which amused many Twitter users, Biden read stage directions along with a quote from the teleprompter.
“It is noteworthy that the percentage of women who registered to vote and cast a ballot is consistently higher than the percentage of men who do so. End of quote,” Biden stated.
The President made the same mistake when he read the next set of instructions aloud, saying” Repeat the line” before going on to recite the quote verbatim.
But for many, Biden’s biggest gaffe came from continuing as though nothing had happened.
Taking to Twitter, Musk tweeted, ‘Whoever controls the teleprompter is the real President!” Alongside an “Anchorman” meme, in which Ron Burgundy, the film’s protagonist absent-mindedly reads everything on the teleprompter.
Washington Times columnist Tim Young agreed with Musk’s sentiment, tweeting, “Biden is so far gone that he will literally read anything put on the teleprompter in front of him.”
Sen. Cotton was far more blunt, simply tweeting “Disturbing” in response to footage of the gaffe.
