How could Biden be this confused?
President Joe Biden was recently asked about extending Title 42 on Thursday at the White House. Instead of the President talking about the health measure, that is Title 42, he instead began speaking about the legal appeal from the Justice Department that is set to challenge the ruling of CDC’s mask mandate on airplanes being rescinded.
“Because as a matter of principle, we want to be able to be in a position where if it is strongly concluded by the scientists that we need Title 42 that we’d be able to do that,” Biden said in response to the question about extending Title 42 past the May expiration day.
“There has been no position on extending Title 42,” he added.
Reporters were quick to realize that the President had mixed his talking points about the mask mandate and Title 42, a mistake the President himself did not realize.
Instead of answering about Title 42, Biden instead used his time to talk about the extension of the mask mandate by 2 weeks, which had been a CDC decision overruled by a federal judge. Since the ruling, the White House has been trying to defend the order.
After the Press conference, the White House issued a statement by Biden seeking to clarify his earlier remarks, “I want to clarify that, in comments at the conclusion of my remarks this morning, I was referring to the CDC’s mask mandate and there is no Department of Justice action on Title 42,” he said.
While it is unclear whether the White House has any plans of potentially extending Title 42, White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters that “Right now, we are planning and preparing for the end of Title 42 enforcement on May 23rd.”
